How to add the ClickUp MCP server to VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Server URL: https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp
Sign-in: We tested it with an access token sent as an Authorization: Bearer header. The vendor also offers OAuth sign-in, which we did not test.
Our hands-on result: Works 13 of 13 tasks passed, tested Oct 17, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).

VS Code setup

File: .vscode/mcp.json

{
  "inputs": [
    {
      "type": "promptString",
      "id": "clickup_api_token",
      "description": "ClickUp personal API token",
      "password": true
    }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "clickup": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:clickup_api_token}"
      }
    }
  }
}
  1. Save the file and click Start above the server entry. VS Code asks you to trust the server.
  2. VS Code asks for the token on first start and stores it as a secret.

We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in VS Code. This config follows VS Code's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.

Same server, other clients
