How to add the Paper Search (Smithery) MCP server to Claude (web and desktop)

Server URL: https://paper-search-mcp-openai--adamamer20.run.tools
Sign-in: We tested it with an API key sent in the api_key query parameter of the URL (a Bearer header was rejected in our test). Treat the full URL as a secret.
Our hands-on result: Partial 12 of 15 tasks passed, tested Oct 17, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).

Claude setup

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it ai-smithery-adamamer20-paper-search-mcp-openai and paste the URL: https://paper-search-mcp-openai--adamamer20.run.tools?api_key=YOUR_SMITHERY_API_KEY
  3. Click Add after replacing YOUR_SMITHERY_API_KEY with your key.
  4. Start a new chat and turn the connector on from the tools menu.

We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude. This config follows Claude's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.
