How to add the Model Context Protocol Docs MCP server to Claude (web and desktop)
Server URL: https://modelcontextprotocol.io/mcp
Sign-in: No sign-in. Paste the URL and it connects.
Our hands-on result: Partial 5 of 6 tasks passed, tested Oct 16, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).
Claude setup
https://modelcontextprotocol.io/mcp- Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Name it mcp-docs and paste the URL: https://modelcontextprotocol.io/mcp
- Click Add. No sign-in is needed.
- Start a new chat and turn the connector on from the tools menu.
We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude. This config follows Claude's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.
