How to add the Model Context Protocol Docs MCP server to Claude Code
Server URL: https://modelcontextprotocol.io/mcp
Sign-in: No sign-in. Paste the URL and it connects.
Our hands-on result: Partial 5 of 6 tasks passed, tested Oct 16, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).
Claude Code setup
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-docs https://modelcontextprotocol.io/mcp- Run the command, then run claude mcp get mcp-docs to confirm it connected.
We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude Code. This config follows Claude Code's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.
