How to add the Slack MCP server to Claude (web and desktop)

Sign-in: OAuth needs your own pre-registered app (no dynamic client registration).
Our hands-on result: Works 7 of 7 tasks passed, tested Oct 16, 2026 with MCP Inspector (reference client).

Claude setup

https://mcp.slack.com/mcp

1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
2. Name it slack and paste the URL: https://mcp.slack.com/mcp
3. Open Advanced settings and enter the OAuth Client ID and Client Secret from your own app.
4. Start a new chat and turn the connector on from the tools menu.

We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude. This config follows Claude's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.

Known problems and fixes

• MCP error: "Incompatible auth server: does not support dynamic client registration"
• MCP error -32601 Method not found on resources/list
• Slack MCP search fails: needs keywords and natural_language_query
