How to add the Jina AI MCP server to ChatGPT
Server URL: https://mcp.jina.ai/v1
Sign-in: No sign-in. Paste the URL and it connects.
Our hands-on result: Partial 4 of 7 tasks passed, tested Oct 16, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).
ChatGPT setup
https://mcp.jina.ai/v1- Open Plugins on chatgpt.com, click the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. On some plans you first turn on Developer mode under Settings.
- Name it jina and enter the URL: https://mcp.jina.ai/v1
- Set authentication to none.
- Tick the risk acknowledgement, create it, then start a new chat and pick it with @.
Page reading works without a key. Search tools need a free Jina API key, sent as Authorization: Bearer.
We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in ChatGPT. This config follows ChatGPT's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.
Known problems and fixes
- MCP tool call times out on slow servers
- MCP tool says "Please set your API key" on a no-signup server
- MCP URL reader returns a 404 page as a normal result
Same server, other clients
