How to add the Jina AI MCP server to Claude (web and desktop)

Sign-in: No sign-in. Paste the URL and it connects.
Our hands-on result: Partial 4 of 7 tasks passed, tested Oct 16, 2026 with MCP TypeScript SDK (reference client).

Claude setup

1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
2. Name it jina and paste the URL: https://mcp.jina.ai/v1
3. Click Add. No sign-in is needed.
4. Start a new chat and turn the connector on from the tools menu.

Page reading works without a key. Search tools need a free Jina API key, sent as Authorization: Bearer.

We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude. This config follows Claude's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.

Known problems and fixes

• MCP tool call times out on slow servers
• MCP tool says "Please set your API key" on a no-signup server
• MCP URL reader returns a 404 page as a normal result
