How to add the Jina AI MCP server to Claude Code

Claude Code setup

claude mcp add --transport http jina https://mcp.jina.ai/v1

1. Run the command, then run claude mcp get jina to confirm it connected.

Page reading works without a key. Search tools need a free Jina API key, sent as Authorization: Bearer.

We ran the hands-on test in a reference client, not in Claude Code. This config follows Claude Code's documented format for remote (Streamable HTTP) servers. If it fails for you, tell us and we will retest.

Known problems and fixes

• MCP tool call times out on slow servers
• MCP tool says "Please set your API key" on a no-signup server
• MCP URL reader returns a 404 page as a normal result
